Something about me
Alasdair Muir has lived in the South Lakes for 25 years – 20 in Staveley near Kendal. Self-employed for 4 years now, he worked as a Building Surveyor for 12 years with South Lakeland District Council and private firm NPS North West Ltd. Prior to this he worked variously as a housing renewal officer (SLDC), forestry contractor (sole trader) and a voluntary conservation officer (BTCV), all in The Lake District.
Working in both the public and private sectors as a Building Surveyor, Alasdair has gained substantial experience in many aspects of the profession. These include:
- Non-domestic energy surveying implementing the UK’s interpretation of the European Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). This boils down to the provision of Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), Display Energy Certificates (DECs), SBEM/BRUKL documents for Building Control compliance with Part L2 of the Building Regulations and TM44 protocol Air Conditioning Assessments.
- Energy auditing with Building Research Establishment (BRE) training; particularly with community buildings such as village halls and schools.
- Commercial Building Surveying services – including condition surveys, schedules of condition, Schedules of Dilapidations, building pathology, remedial work specification and supervision.
- Energy saving and renewable energy feasibility and options reports in the commercial sector.
Alasdair is married with two children and is a keen, if not very successful, fell runner.
